The House Life Project (HLP) is a creative place-making initiative based in the Near Eastside of Indianapolis. Artists, architects and designers are working with local residents to explore new ways of seeing and experiencing vacant properties, which are often defined narrowly by their current state of decay.

As part of the inaugural House Life Project group in the summer and fall of 2015, Michelle Given and I collaborated on a piece called Clean Lines.  Our goal was to clean, refinish and repaint a one foot wide stripe around the interior of the master bedroom in the abandoned house from floor to ceiling, in order to facilitate a conversation about both the building's past as well as it's potential future.
